Rani to pay tribute to Madhuri, Sridevi and Juhi!



Rani Mukerji is all set to be seen in a film called Aiyya after a long time. The actress is playing a very different role and will be seen giving tribute to three top divas of Bollywood, namely Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi and Juhi Chawla. This will be portayed beautifully in the film through a song.

As per sources, “It is a kind of a medley and will be a highlight of the film. Rani is all excited about this idea and is preparing for it thoroughly. The director and Rani sat together to shortlist the few songs of the three actresses.”

The source further adds, “The song will be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant and the styling will be done by Neeta Lulla. Rani will be seen dressed up in three different avatars, that of Mohini in Ek Do Teen, Manju in Na Jaane Kahan Se and Radha in Tu Tu Tutu Tara.”

Commenting on the song, Sachin- the director of the film confirmed, “This is a person tribute to Sri, Mads and Juhi. They are people we both adore and whose films we have grown up watching. We both can’t wait to show Aiyya to all the three ladies.”

Well, we are sure Rani will do a good job and make the three ladies feel proud.

Mukerji to recreate hits by Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi and Juhi Chawla in upcoming film
Rani Mukerji will pay tribute to her idols Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Sridevi through a song in her upcoming film Aiyya. A source reveals, "It will be the title track - a medley of sorts - and will be a highlight of the film. It is director Sachin Kundalkar's brainchild, and has Rani all charged up. Together they sat down and shortlisted a few songs. Rani personally narrowed down the three tracks to be used."

Choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, the song will have Rani dressed up as the characters from three signature hits: Mohini in Ek Do Teen (Tezaab), Manju in Na Jaane Kahan Se (Chaalbaaz) and Radha in Tu Tu Tu Tara (Bol Radha Bol), made popular by Madhuri, Sridevi and Juhi respectively. The outfits and the dance steps will be similar to the original.

Adds the source, "Neeta Lulla has replicated the minutest details of their costumes."

Sachin confirms, "This is a personal tribute to Sri, Mads and Juhi. They are actresses we both adore and whose films we've grown up watching. It's a dream sequence, about which Rani and I are super excited."

Needless to say, the inspiring icons will see the film. "We both can't wait to show Aiyya to all three ladies," concludes the director.

After pictures of Rani Mukerji emerged dressed very similar to Sridevi in Chaalbaaz, rumours were rife on whether Rani would be paying tribute to the actress.

The news now, is that Rani will be playing tribute to not only Sridevi, but also Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla.
Rani will be seen dressing up as the 3 actresses in a medley type song for Aiyya!

The song will be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant who is Ranis best friend. They have recently worked together on Dil Bole Hadippa. The styling will be done by Neeta Lulla who has replicated the most minute detail of each outfit. Rani herself has helped to shortlist the three songs.

Rani will be dancing along to Tu Tu Taara from Bol Radha Bol, Ek Do Teen from Tehzaab and Na Jaane Kahan Se from Chaalbaaz.

Rani Mukerji Tributes Three Heroines



Rani Mukerji, who is doing “Aiyya,” her first film since “No One Killed Jessica,” will tribute all her three idols – Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla — in a medley in the forthcoming film. The film finds Rani portray a Maharashtrian girl. Sachin Kundalkar directs the film co-produced by Anurag Kashyap.

The songs chosen have been “Na jaane kahaan se aayi hai” from “Chaalbaaz” (Sridevi), “Ek do teen char” from “Tezaab” (Madhuri Dixit) and “Tututu tutu tara” from “Bol Radha Bol” (Juhi Chawla). Rani is said to have personally handpicked the numbers that will be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. Neeta Lulla is said to be replicating the details of the original costumes.

The director claims that Rani and he are die-hard fans of these three actresses. “We grew up adoring them and watching their films. We hope that we can get them to watch Aiyya’ and our tribute to them,” he told a city daily.

Rani Mukherjee's tapori item number

Rani Mukherjee has again donned the cap of item girl. She is all set to groove in an item number in Sachin Kundalka’s ‘Aiyya’. When all Bollywood leading ladies from Katrina to Kareena is cashing good amount with masaladar item songs then Rani should be lagging behind.

The actress who gave hits like, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota’, Ghulam’, ‘Black’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ etc are all set to shake her booty in an item number to be choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. Rani will don a tapori number for the song as the lyrics are playful and naughty.

Rani is highly excited to hear the song. A source working on the song revealed, “It will be a major highlight of the film. Her role is that of a shy Marathi girl who undergoes a change when she falls in love with her leading man played by Prithviraj.”

It is well known how Aamir Khan aka Mr Perfectionist prefers to take some of the major decisions concerning his films by himself. Looks like we have a Miss Perfectionist on our hands now. Not just content with calling the shots on her costumes in her forthcoming film, buzz is that Rani Mukerji is going a few steps ahead to make sure that she is at the helm of every aspect of her character in her new film, directed by Sachin Kundalkar.

Costume fever

Rani has been known to be at the helm of things in all her films, produced by her rumoured beau Aditya Chopra. A source says, "Right from the time she signed the film, Rani has been very particular about every nuance of her character -- that of a Maharashtrian girl. So when the look of her character was being planned, she took the initiative of discussing her outfits, accessories, etc with the designers Neeta and Nishka Lulla. What's more, she was also very particular about the materials to be used for the outfits. She would explain why a particular material was better than the other options available."

Drama queen

If that's not enough, it is learnt that the actress would also give her inputs to enhance the portrayal of her character. Interestingly, she plays a middle-class girl with a tendency to behave theatrically and who woos a stranger just because he smells good.

The source also said that when a particular way of doing a scene failed to impress Rani, she'd suggest her own way for better effect.

Three-in-one

As a matter of fact, we learnt that Rani was most particular about her looks in two tracks -- one a naughty number full of double entendres and a medley dream sequence. The latter is a tribute to Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. "While the looks and the costumes will be inspired from the three actresses, Rani's take on their styling can't go unnoticed," says the source.

In ‘Aiyyaa’, Rani Mukherjee pays tribute to the three Bollywood divas- Sridevi , Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla

In her upcoming film ‘Aiyyaa’, the actress will pay tribute to the three divas of Bollywood. For someone, who has grown-up watching and enacting their scenes, it is like a wish fulfillment for her.

The opening sequence of the film shows her taking a pledge in front of the posters of Sridevi , Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. Says a source, “Rani personally looks up to all three of them and was quite kicked while shooting this scene.”

More than half of the shooting of the film was done in the J.J School of Arts in Mumbai. In the film, Prithviraj plays a student studying at J.J school of arts. The makers wanted to make his character look more authentic so they wrote to the trustees of this college. However the State government had stopped giving permission for films and ad shoots inside the premises after four 125-year-old sculptures were severely damaged during a film shoot earlier. But after much back and forth, the team finally got permission to shoot inside the college.

‘Aiyyaa’ is a story about a Marathi girl Meenakshi Deshpande (Meenakshi) falling in love with a Tamil artist Surya (Prithviraj). It is a quirky and funny love story with the backdrop of a Marathi-Tamil cultural clash. The lead female protagonist woos the stranger she desires as he smells good. This is Rani’s comeback into the industry and people have high hopes form the film.

Bollywood Journal: Traveling Back in Time with ‘Aiyyaa’

Watching the latest Bollywood release “Aiyyaa” swept me back to my childhood.

Rani Mukherjee’s character Meenaxi is exactly as I was growing up. Being over dramatic, filmy, looking into the mirror trying to emulate Madhuri Dixit’s iconic facial expressions was what I enjoyed doing as a little boy.

In the movie, which released nationwide in India on Oct. 12, Meenaxi is obsessed with the heroines of the late 1980s and 90s, namely Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. I also admired these ladies growing up – indeed, my love for Madhuri Dixit was all consuming, but more of that later.

“Aiyyaa” tells the story of Meenaxi, her search for love and her family’s quest for her perfect suitor. She is conflicted between the man she chooses to marry, a painter, and the man her parents have chosen for her. Meenaxi’s obsession with this painter and her choice to marry him is based on one simple fact, the way he smells – quite unusual for a run-of-the-mill Bollywood film. It’s the same basic narratives, characters, situations and magic we love – just packaged differently. The same old wine in a new bottle – and that’s no bad thing.

The film excels mainly because its characters are over the top and sensationalized. It makes you laugh out loud in the most ordinary, day-to-day sort of situations. It also gives a whimsical look into Meenaxi’s fantasies – full of life, color, song and dance.

While the focus of the film is on Meenaxi herself, “Aiyyaa” is far from being a woman centric film, which it has been commonly labeled. To describe a film as “woman centric” suggests there is a female in the lead role and that the film mainly gives a serious perspective into the particular experiences of being a woman. But I’d call this movie “heroine centric.” It revolves around the story of the lead female protagonist(s) and its success lays on the lead actress’s (Rani Mukherjee) talent and star power. And there are other characters that are integral to the narrative, all of whom contribute significantly to the plot and to both the comedic and emotional scenes. It’s more than just a view from a woman’s perspective.

The crux of the film is the dream world in which Meenaxi lives and escapes to, where she dreams of one day becoming a Bollywood heroine. This dream world — its comedy and wackiness — is what is truly entertaining.

The dream sequences had a big impact on me – they were dreams that I could relate to as a child, and now as a grown man. In these dreams, Meenaxi gets into complete filmy mode. She is generally a “drama queen” when she is interacting with people on a daily basis and her dreams allow her Bollywood influences to completely take over. I did the same as a child, and quite frankly, even now. I still fantasize about running around the trees and dream of eventually becoming a Bollywood heroine. I even use Lux soap in the shower from time to time.

As a child, I worshipped Madhuri Dixit, just like Meenaxi does. I religiously danced to each and every single hit song of hers, watched all her films and one day hoped that I too would become graceful and dignified. I even danced to her songs at family functions, which then followed with comments to my parents, such as “he will grow out of it!” Yet, now 27 and thinking about my love for Bollywood, I realize that this love is not just one for song and dance, bright color and whimsical narratives – my love for Madhuri Dixit and Bollywood exists because it made dreaming possible.

“Aiyyaa” may not have the same effect on most viewers as it did on me, but watching the film was to suspend time and travel back to my childhood. I yearn for more films just like this.
